"Every third controlled truck carrying dangerous goods has no control over security."
It was the result of heavy vehicle section of the Danish National Police’s raids both in 2005 and 2009.
DGM Security Solutions in collaboration with Vikingegaarden developed a solution that gives drivers, police and transport operators access to updated dangerous goods information on their PDA or mobile phone.
For example specific driver’s checklists can be retrieved instantly, which can help the driver to ensure that dangerous goods offered for carriage are packed, marked and labeled properly, prior to acceptance of the goods for transport. Furthermore, it is possible to print the instructions in writing (the combined safety card) in 34 different languages, and thus meet the requirements for written instructions on the driver's language regardless of driver nationality.
The system is based on DGM SDG's well known dangerous goods software solution DGOffice.net ensuring that all data and checklists are fully updated according to current legislation at all times. Besides that, the system allows drivers and police instant access to driver's checklist, complete classification strings and instructions in writing. This can be expanded with additional options according to customer requirements.
A good example of how the solution could be ideal is a driver who deliveres goods abroad, and receives a consignment of dangerous goods as return goods. The solution with PDA access to dangerous goods information allows the driver to print missing documents and specific relevant checklists on eg. a Bluetooth printer in the vehicle, and thus meet the requirements of legislation.
The solution can run on any mobile phone or PDA with Internet access and the possibility to open .pdf files, and by that is not dependent on investment in expensive hardware. With fines quickly reaching € 800,- to € 1200,- in Germany, the limited investment is quickly earned back.
